Tec Instructor

An entry-level Instructor training course starting your journey into the PADI TecRec professional ranks.

Overview

The Tec Instructor course is an entry-level Instructor training course starting your journey into the tec diving world and joining the PADI TecRec professional ranks. As a Tec Instructor, you’ll be qualified to conduct Discover Tec programs, teach the Tec 40 course and assist a Tec Deep Instructor with Tec 45 Diver courses (which is a great way to gain experience).

Prerequisites

To enroll on a PADI Tec Instructor course, you must:

Be a renewed PADI Instructor
Be a PADI Enriched Air diver and Instructor
Be a PADI Deep Specialty Instructor
Have a minimum of 100 logged dives, with at least 20 enriched air dives, 25 dives deeper than 18m/60ft and 15 dives deeper than 30m/100ft.

Exit Requirements

Prior to sending in the PADI Tec Instructor Application, you must also:

Be a renewed PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer Instructor
Be a PADI Enriched Air Specialty Instructor
Be a PADI Deep Specialty Instructor
Be certified as a Tec 45 Diver (PADI TecRec or equivalent)
Have a minimum of 20 stage decompression dives
Have completed the PADI Tec Instructor examinations

Materials Required

You must have, in your possession, a personal, current set of the following materials for study and use during the course and for reference afterwards;

Tec Diver Course Instructor manual
Tec Diver Course lesson guides
Instructor slates
Participant exams

Equipment Required

You will need to have full technical diving set-up. You can dive backmounted or sidemounted (if you already have the training in sidemount configuration).

All required equipment is available at a very reasonable price for you to rent for the duration of your course, should you not have your own personal set.

Do bear in mind though, that as a Tec Instructor you will be required to have all of your own personal equipment in order to teach in the future.

What's Involved in the Course?

If you aren’t already a certified tec diver, then you will need to complete the entire Tec 40 and 45 Diver courses in addition to the Instructor training. Part One of the course focuses on the knowledge and skills required for technical deep diving. Part Two fine-tunes your ability to conduct knowledge development, practical application and open water teaching segments. You’ll also go over the philosophy, organization and marketing considerations for technical diver training.
